A very worthwhile Psalm to review. A song sung while "ascending" up to Jerusalem.
Psalm 121:1 NKJV - A Song of Ascents. I WILL lift up my eyes to the hills From whence comes my help?
We seem to constantly be in situations where we need outside help. We may not always realize that, but this points us to where our focus should be.
Psalm 121:2 NKJV - My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
Two ideas here. First, the Lord is the source of our help. He is the one who will provide a way for us to go through and escape.
Second, He made heaven and earth. Contrary to the claims of many today that it all "just happened" we serve a God who did create it!
Psalm 121:3 NKJV - He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.
He is not human, needing sleep and rest. Even the best of us has to sleep sometime and will not always be available, but He is not that way! Not allowing your foot to be moved implies to me that our feet can always be on a firm foundation, not slipping (moving)!
Psalm 121:4 NKJV - Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
Reinforcement of the idea of Him never being unavailable due to sleep.
Psalm 121:5 NKJV - The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
The Lord keeps us safe. He provides shade in the hot sun and is at our "right hand" as a ready aid when we need it.
Psalm 121:6 NKJV - The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night.
The shade He provides is sufficient. The sun cannot force its way through and parch us. The moon can also not harm us. We have nothing to fear from the dark forces powered by the moon, popularized by the current fascination with vampires and werewolves, but built on demonic and occultic forces.
Psalm 121:7 NKJV - The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul.
We have a protection from all evil. Our soul will never be in danger as we walk in His protection.
Psalm 121:8 NKJV - The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.
This would seem to cover all our lives. We are always covered and safe!
