Quite easy to do these with the search tools. I am glad I figured out the cut-and-paste features at the Blue Letter Bible site. :)
========
I searched for "laziness", "lazy" and "sluggard". I might have been able to find more, but this seems pretty good for this forum.
Proverbs 19:15 NKJV - [15] Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger.
This is especially interesting when compared to the final Scripture I have below. Not only does sleeping too much indicate laziness, laziness pushes one towards sleeping too much!
Proverbs 10:26 NKJV - As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy man to those who send him.
Both vinegar on the teeth and smoke to the eyes are harsh, so is someone lazy when put on a task. Most likely the task will not get done and cause trouble for the original sender. I pray I continually avoid this, on both sides!
Proverbs 12:24 NKJV - The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.
Being diligent tends to put you in charge. Letting things slide leads to the other.
Proverbs 12:27 NKJV - The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man's precious possession.
How prone can we all be to not following through. I can be a victim of time at not finishing things. While it can sometimes be proper to finish things in their time, sometimes we don't finish things because we are not being diligent.
Proverbs 13:4 NKJV - The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.
Desire doesn't give things, being diligent does. I pray that could spread throughout our society. This is probably the answer to curing a lot more poverty than anything else. Though how do you instill a "diligent attitude" in people? That is the tough question.
Proverbs 15:19 NKJV - The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns, But the way of the upright is a highway.
Note that a hedge of thorns can have its place, as a block and a hindrance. So is the lazy a block to the efforts of others. We smooth the way of others when we are upright and do what is right! That is not necessarily a popular view today, but it remains true.
Proverbs 19:24 NKJV - A lazy man buries his hand in the bowl, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
Another point on the issue of following through on what we do. That is even worse than not preparing the meat you got in the hunt. In this case, it is merely a few inches from the bowl to the mouth, but that is too much for someone who is lazy.
Proverbs 20:4 NKJV - The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing.
I do not believe this is referring to useless plowing, but the point is that we need to prepare in the "off season," so we are ready when the time comes for production. That is a great thing to think of, since preparation doesn't seem all that important "in winter."
Proverbs 21:25 NKJV - The desire of the lazy man kills him, For his hands refuse to labor.
I would compare this to "hope deferred makes the heart sick. The implication here is that the desire will be unfulfilled and thus "kill" the man.
Proverbs 22:13 NKJV - The lazy man says, "There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!"
Clearly lions were in the area around this time, since David slew one while protecting the sheep. Though this seems to be excuse making rather than true concern. I doubt lions roamed freely through the city or even where man was. If they did, humans would probably have hunted them down even more.
Proverbs 24:30-34 NKJV - [30] I went by the field of the lazy man, And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding; [31] And there it was, all overgrown with thorns; Its surface was covered with nettles; Its stone wall was broken down. [32] When I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and received instruction: [33] A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest; [34] So shall your poverty come like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.
Once again the connection between laziness and too much sleep. Don't deal with a slack hand! Note that poverty comes on this individual quite violently. Sometimes we bring our own results on ourselves.
Proverbs 26:13 NKJV - The lazy man says, "There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion is in the streets!"
More about a potential danger.
Proverbs 26:14 NKJV - As a door turns on its hinges, So does the lazy man on his bed.
We expect to see a door on hinges connected to a doorway. So do we expect to see a lazy man sleeping, only flipping from side to side.
Proverbs 26:15 NKJV - The lazy man buries his hand in the bowl; It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth.
A repeat of the laziness of not even following through for this minimal effort.
Proverbs 26:16 NKJV - The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes Than seven men who can answer sensibly.
Not only are the lazy unproductive, they think they are smarter than everyone else! What danger that brings.
Proverbs 6:6 NKJV - Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise,
Look at the ant for guidance. Lots of things to ponder in the following verses.
Proverbs 6:9 NKJV - How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep?
No plans for the lazy person to rise from their "restful" lifestyle. It will be to their detriment.
